Shauna Conaghan established her Equine Therapy Business in 2012, it is based outside her home town of Ballybofey, in Co. Donegal. Over the past twenty years she has worked in various roles within the mental health, disabilities and rehabilitation services.
In 2010 she trained in the EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association) model of Equine Therapy. In 2012 she trained in the Horse Boy Model which is specific to children and young people with ASD.
2017 she qualified as an Integrative Counsellor and in 2019 she qualified as a Child and Adolescent counsellor.
Shauna is IACP and BACP Accredited.
In 2022 she completed training in, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
She offers a confidential, non-judgmental counselling service to children and adolescents who are experiencing challenge and difficulties in their lives.
Through combining her skills and knowledge of therapy, horses and counselling she now facilitates a unique therapeutic model known as; Equine Assisted Counselling (EAC). EAC is a unique approach to therapy which incorporates horses, a counsellor and client in a collaborative effort to facilitate emotional growth and learning. It is experiential in nature and depends on the interaction between the horse and the human.
Through her work as an equine therapist, she has witnessed huge improvements in clients mental health, improvements in self-confidence, a greater ability to manage challenges and improvement in one’s personal development.
